Genetic Analysis

Genetic Analysis

After you obtain your DNA results from 23andme,MyHeritage,FTDNA or Ancestry. Our team will analyze your admixture and relatives in order to provide you deep insight into your family lines origins. For compatible test we will also ananlyze paternal and maternal  lines known as YDNA (Paternal) and MTDNA (maternal)

Founded in History

This genetic analysis is incomplete without tying it to history. In your report you will receive details of how the history timeline ties to your relatives and admixture events. For example the first Africans in the Americas where in grand majority from what used to be known as Senegambia in upper west Africa, arriving in the 16th century

Primo! Cousin!

We help you understand both close and distant relatives and how they tie into your family, going back as far back as dna permits. While most dna relatives come from ancestors in the last 250 years, adding in admixture and with the presence of endogamy these timelines can be pushed further.

Below is a summarized report, of the types of analysis we do with the genetic service. Your actual report will contain more detail.

General:

Immediate origin from Cuba and  Dominican Republic

Americas:. The dual mixture of Cuban and Dominican given the profiles of most testers from these regions will include native from both places, further analysis will provide detail on both. There is a high probability of Taino ancestry.

     Africa:
Nigeria:  Nigerian component is predominant however be aware that this includes the peoples of Benin, Togo, Eastern Ghana and Cameroon. From these regions Dominicans inherited the susu society which we call “San”, used as a money-saving system.
Angola and Congolese: This region known for Bantu speakers is quite foundational in Dominican society specially in the 1600s, bringing us words like Casimba, and place names such as river Cuanza in Monteplata and Loma Congo in Santiago.
Senegambia: The first Africans to arrive to the Americas where of this procedence and the Santo Domingo colony (today Dominican Republic) was the first place to receive, Cuba also had a wave in the 1500s. The first slave rebellion of the Americas in 1521 was orchestrated by inhabitants of this region, in the south of modern Dominican Republic.
Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast/Ghana: Africans from this region arrived all throughout colonial history, and in particular you have strong ties to the Duarte province in the Dominican Republic which is one of two places that eats Ackee, a fruit considered poisonous in the rest of the country.

Europa: Clearly predominant Iberian origin, This includes both Spaniards and Portugese, and  due to the low sampling of French individuals it may include some south-french ancestry as well. The Canarian settlers of 17th and 18th century where instrumental in Dominican and Cuban economic growth.  While for Cuba this wave of Canarians was much larger and extended a longer period of time.

Uniparental Markers:

Paternal Line: Origin in Western Europe, i.e Spain, England, Portugal, France

Maternal Line: Origin in upper west Africa, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Guinea

Africa: In the level of 4th and 5th cousins you have relatives of the Fulani, Hausa and Hausa-Fulani ethnicities. These ethnic groups where present both in the D.R and Cuba however the triangulation concludes that this connection is via your Dominican side.

THeire arrival in the 1680-1760 period was quite felt in the D.R and Cuba, The Portugese are via your Dominican side per the triangulation while the Canarians are via your Cuban side.
